

Edith Lorraine Adams Platt, age 85, of San Antonio, TX, died peacefully at home under the patient and gentle care of her husband of almost 59 years, Lon H. Platt, daughter, Ann Chandler and Bluebonnet Hospice on Monday, January 16th, 2006.
She was born January 23rd, 1920 in McCullough, Alabama to Hubert and Evie Adams and grew up in a loving family of 8 children. After graduating from High School in Morton Valley in Eastland County, Texas, she attended Abilene Christian University and then the University of Texas. While attending college in Austin, she was employed by the Texas Department of Public Safety until September 3rd, 1943 when she enlisted in the Women's Reserve of the United States Coast Guard and was called to active duty from September 16th, 1943 until December 22nd, 1945.
She was honorably discharged as a Specialist 2nd Class, Coast Guard Intelligence at the end of World War II.
On February 14th, 1947 she married Lon Henry Platt and most of their nearly 59 years of marriage were spent in San Antonio, Texas After marriage and the birth of her children, Edith completed her undergraduate degree in Education from Trinity University in San Antonio and thereafter received her Master's Degree in Education also from Trinity.
Her husband, Lon H. Platt; a son, Judge Stuart Platt and daughter-in-law; Carissa of Midland, Texas; and her daughter, Ann Chandler of San Antonio survive her. Edith is also survived by her three grandchildren, 1LT Jonathan Platt United States Army, Ft. Story, Virginia, SSGT Clayton Platt Arkansas Air National Guard and his wife Cora of Searcy, Arkansas, and Meredith Platt of Midland, Texas. Her sister, Vera Alford of Fredericksburg, TX, and one brother, Gary Adams and his wife, Betty of Coppel, TX, and another sister, Janie Higgins and husband Sam of Granbury, Texas as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive her.
Edith was a teacher by passion and profession and is survived by hundreds of students in the Northeast Independent School District where she was a full time teacher and upon retirement, a substitute teacher for more than 35 years as well as countless Bible students who learned from her knowledgeable and passionate teaching of the Bible in churches and schools for more than 50 years.
Edith served on the Board of Christian Heritage Schools of San Antonio for many years.
Edith and Lon spent over 45 years at the Sunset Ridge Church of Christ in San Antonio.
