Edna Mae left her earthly house to go Home to be with her Lord on February 8, 2011. She was met there by her husband of 48 years, Bill Whittam and their son, Michael Arthur Whittam. She is survived by their daughters: Nancy Jo Whittam, Nitzie Whittam and Mary Beth Whittam and her beloved dog, Miss Daisy.
As a child, Edna Mae had always wanted to be a nurse, a dream that was fulfilled when she received her RN from the Seventh Day Adventist Nursing School. She then joined the United States Army and was sent to India where she was courted by her future husband, an officer in Army Medical Supply. They were married in Indiana. A short time later they were sent to San Antonio and, although the Army sent them to several other posts, San Antonio always remained their home and they retired here.
For many years, Edna Mae was a member of the Executive Committee of the local Christian Women’s Club. She was an active member of Wayside Chapel where she attended their Widows group, the OWLS (Older, Wiser, Loving Saints), and the Genesis Sunday school class.
Visitation will be at Sunset Funeral Memorial Park and Funeral Home, 1701 Austin Hwy on Sunday, February 13, 2011 from 5PM to 6:30PM, followed by a short farewell service at 6:30PM. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be at Wayside Chapel Evangelical Free Church, 1705 NW Loop 410, San Antonio, TX 78213 on Monday, February 14th at 1 pm. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be sent to Wayside Chapel Agape fund (www.waysidechapel.org) or Shepherds’ Support (www.shepherdssupport.org).
Though this obituary may seem short, our Mom’s life was full and rich with those things that matter most – a deep and growing relationship with God, loving and being loved by a wonderful man and her children, and creating wonderful memories with many friends. We thank all of you that had a part in her life. It is well, it is very well, with her soul.
Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her….Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.
