He earned a B.S. in Accounting from Texas Tech University. A proud veteran, he served as an officer in the U.S. Navy and did two tours in Vietnam aboard the USS Walker.
After serving more than 20 years at Valero Energy Corporation, Edward retired as President. He and his son worked together to open Gladys Restaurant in San Antonio. Later, he served in several capacities with the Archdiocese of San Antonio.
He was a man of faith and ethics and was a generous supporter of the church and charities in general.
Edward's family was the most important thing to him. He had a great love of art, was an avid golfer, and spent many years sailing and traveling.
Edward was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Thomas Edward Benninger, and 3 sisters, Barbara Allen, Marilyn Sherrill, and Kay Paroski. Survivors include his wife of almost 50 years, Nelda Benninger; his sister, Suzanne Jeansonne; his daughter, Bridget Benninger Psaromatis and husband Michael; and grandchildren, Kirie Psaromatis, Kalli Psaromatis, and Christian Benninger.
The family will receive friends from 6:00-7:00 P.M. on Wednesday, June 10, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church.
