Born on November 30, 1945, in Rochester, New York, and raised in Spencerport, NY, he was the eldest of five children of Edward Gangross Jr. and Gloria (Paulus).
He was an Eagle Scout and a Vietnam veteran. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Purdue University and was employed by Dow Chemical from which he retired. Over the years, he and his family lived in Michigan, Houston, and San Antonio, Texas.
Preceded in death by his parents and brother Gary. He is survived by his wife, Ellen; his children, Sarah Valkner (Patrick), Aaron, and Joel (Lori); his granddaughters, Victoria, Hannah, Laynie and Kennedy, as well as his sister and brothers.
A graveside service with military honors will be held at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery on Friday, February 27, 2026 at 11:00 am.
He will be remembered for his long stories, putting ketchup on everything, plaid shirts, his Santa Claus collection and his love of Honey Buns and Thin Mints.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Wreaths Across America for Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery or the Raul Jimenez Thanksgiving Dinner.
