

Edward Jiminez was born December 22, 1924 in Leon Springs, Texas to Marcelo and Corina Jiminez. He passed away with family by his side on September 11, 2014 at Fort Sam Houston (SAMMC). He is preceded in death by his parents Marcelo and Corina Jiminez, Brothers Alex Jiminez (Shelia), Joe Jiminez(Juanita), and Sister Rose Hall (Jerry) . Edward was a loving Husband, Father, Grandpa and Great Grandpa. He loved his family very much and was very generous with all his loved ones. After Family Edward was most proud of his service to our country. He served our country during WWII as a gunner on destroyers. One of his destroys was actually torpedo in the pacific. His last destroyer during WWII was the USS Gridley. Edward saw much action during the war. On the morning of December 7th 1941 the USS Gridley was approaching Pearl Harbor. A message was received “Air Raid on Pearl Harbor, this is no drill”. The Gridley entered the harbor the next day to help protect against any further attacks. The Gridley Patrolled the Japanese held islands of Kiska and Attu and assisted in the bombardment of Kiska in August of 1942. The Gridley continued throughout the war to render invaluable service protecting carriers against submarine attacks. The Gridley was also with the American Forces in the Battle of the Philippine Gridley was also instrumental in protecting the carriers in the attacks of Okinasa and Formasa. we can all rest assured that Edward is with the rest of his buddies sharing all their stories of family, loved ones and the War stories. He will be greatly missed by all who loved him, cared for him and new him. May our beloved Edward rest peaceful in the arms of Jesus.
