

Colonel Edward R. McNabb, Jr., U.S. Army, retired, passed away September 2, 2001, peacefully at home in the company of his children. He was born January 8, 1921 to Edward R. and Millie McNabb in Corpus Christi, TX. He was reared in South and Central Texas and was a lifelong resident of Texas. He was a member of the Baptist Church and the Masonic Order. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in March 1942 and served thirty-three years active and active reserve duty participating in two wars as an infantry officer. In WWII, he served first as a Ranger under British Combined Operations Command and then with regimental units making the Omaha Beach assault and participating in five campaigns. In the Korean Conflict, he served for two campaigns, on an Infantry Division staff in Korea, on a Reception Center and Post headquarter staff, and on the staff of Headquarters, U.S. Army European Communication Zone. In reserve assignments, he served on the faculty of a Reserve School for fourteen years and was the mobilization designee for a division of the office of Deputy Chief of Staff Logistics, Headquarters Dept. of Army, where ordered to retired status. Employed twenty-four years by the Air Force Logistics Command and served with the San Antonio Air Logistics Center until retirement in 1980. Graduate of the Infantry and Adjutant General's Schools, U.S. Army Command and General Staff and the U.S. Air Force Staff and Command Colleges through the Industrial College of the Armed Forces. Received BA and MA degrees from Southwest Texas State University. Decorations include the Combat Infantry Badge, Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster, Presidential Unit Citation with one Oak Leaf Cluster, and French Croix d'Guerre with Palm. He was active in Community affairs serving on the Hill Country Village City Council from 1977 through 1981. Served as Mayor of Hill Country Village from 1986 through 1997. He was an active member of the Republican Party in Texas. Proceeded in death by his wife of 53 years, Agnes Murf McNabb, his eldest son, Edward R. McNabb, III Ricky, and his aunt, Ollie Poe. He is survived by his children, James W. McNabb, Dennis M. McNabb and his wife Mary Scott, John T. McNabb, Mary E. McNabb, Ollie Lynne McNabb, June A. Weinman and her husband Bruce; grandchildren, Colin, Gregor, Scotty, Sean and Shani, Three special caregivers who took care of him as their own, Maggie Burns, Angela Times and Danje Coulston. Dad, until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of his hand.
