Our beloved Edward, better known as “Ed” Perez, age 53, passed away on Saturday, January 23, 2021 in San Antonio, Texas. He was born March 31, 1967 in Houston, Texas to Frances Gonzales and Ernesto Perez.
Edward wore many hats – Husband, Father, Popo Ed, Son, Brother, Son-In-Law, Father-In-Law, Uncle, Coach, Compadre and Friend. He was such an admirable, compassionate, kind, quick-witted and intelligent individual. Edward married his loving bride, Melissa, in 1989, and always made it his life’s mission to take care of her. He was extremely proud of his children and grandchildren. His ultimate pride was sharing Rachel and Zachary’s accomplishments with friends and family. Weekends with his grandchildren were always treasured moments and his ultimate joy. His family was the passionate driving force in his life. He loved traveling, gambling, the Astros, and the Tennessee Titans (formerly Houston Oilers)! Vegas was his absolute paradise. Although he disliked the sun, he would take Melissa to the beach as often as she desired. He was the ultimate provider and giver of life, love, time and passion.
Edward was an intense fanatic in all things sports from rookie to professional level, especially in baseball, football and golf! He took great pride in founding his own baseball organization (S.A. Rebels) and coached from tee ball through high school. Ed coached his son as well as many others’ sons in baseball and football. He was also nicknamed “Coach Ed” from the enthusiastic inspiration he ignited from his players. He established and maintained incredible and wonderful relationships with an entire baseball family across the city.
Edward loved his family and friends unconditionally and with his whole heart. His dry humor and captivating personality granted him a plethora of friendships. He lived life gloriously.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ernesto Perez and brother, Ernest Jr. Ed is survived by his wife of 31 years, Melissa Perez; daughter, Rachel Staggs (30) and husband Travis; son, Zachary Perez (21); grandchildren, Brooklynn (6) and Troy Staggs (4); mother, Frances Perez; siblings, Eugene Perez (Oneida), Elizabeth Perez Velasco, Eliot Perez, and Eloise Zatopek (Julius); as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and a lifetime of friends.
Edward will be laid to rest on Friday, February 26, 2021. Edward will be dearly missed and forever remain in our hearts.
