

Elaine Ruth Nichols went to be with our Lord on January 6, 2011, at the age of 84. She was born on December 19, 1926 in Watertown, South Dakota, a daughter of Harlow Thomas and Lila Marie Bibbins. After graduating from Watertown High School, Elaine moved to Washington, DC during WWII to work for the Federal government. While working for the Department of State, she met her future husband, Robert Warren Nichols. She accompanied him on Foreign Service assignments to Bonn, Germany and Rome, Italy. After retiring to Clearwater, FL, she moved to Gaithersburg, MD where she lived until 2007, when she moved to San Antonio to be with her daughter and family. Elaine was a lifelong Catholic who devoutly lived her faith by frequently attending daily Mass and Scripture classes, and by her generous, kind and gentle spirit. She was a long-time parishioner at St. John Neumann parish in MD where she was very active in the 50 Plus Club, and she had many dear friends there. She devoted her life to raising her daughter & was very involved in her grandchildren’s lives. She loved to travel, shop, spend time with her family and had a great love for animals, especially dogs. Elaine was preceded in death by her parents, sister Virginia, and husband of 41 years. She is survived by her daughter Marie Elaine DeGennaro and her husband John, and grandchildren Robert, Matthew, Kristin, and Teresa. She will be missed terribly by all who knew and loved her. Visitation will be at St. Anthony Mary Claret Catholic Church 6080 Roft Road on Sunday, January 9, 2011 beginning at 7:15 PM with at rosary at 8:00 P.M. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 1:00 P.M. Monday, January 10, 2011 at St. Anthony Mary Claret Catholic Church with interment to follow at Resurrection Cemetery at Cordi-Marian
