Eloise was born January 29, 1924 in San Antonio and remained a resident all her life. As a young woman, Eloise worked for Ralph E. Fair and Southwestern Bell Telephone Company.
She became a talented pianist and was a piano teacher who played for children's services at St. Mark's Episcopal Church.
Eloise was also a skilled seamstress who worked as a fabric and sewing manager for T.G.&Y. Stores.
As a volunteer for the Episcopal Church, for many years Eloise assisted at St. George's Bargain Boutique and for St. Mark's Lenten Lunches.
She devoted her life to raising her children, providing for their education and supporting their activities in the community.
As a World War II U.S.O. volunteer, she met her future husband, John. She and John were happily married for 63 years until his death in 2009 on August 14th.
Following his death, Eloise found renewed strength as a resident of her Morningside Ministries Kaulbach Assisted Living home. It became a haven of warmth, fellowship and security.
She is survived by her sisters: Johanna H. Wilhelm of Lahaina, Hawaii and Kirsten K. Hansen of Copenhagen, Denmark; her children: Pamela Gorham Alec Iorio of Redondo Beach, CA; Cynthia Ann Gorham of Houston, TX and John William Meg Gorham of Laguna Hills, CA; five beloved grandchildren Megan, Bethany, Emily, Alex and Christopher; and niece and grandnephew Tine and Nikolaj Hansen-Turton.
The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to Fr. Jeff Mead, Rev. Michael Chalk and Rev. Jonathan Wickham for their spiritual guidance and support; to caregivers Emily and John Rice for their compassionate care and friendship; to VITAS Hospice Unit for their compassionate care; to long-time neighbors and friends, Felipe Campos and Joe Recendez for their kindness and support through the years; to Al Iorio for his comfort, support, and assistance; and to the entire staff and all the residents of Morningside Ministries Kaulbach Senior Assisted Living for putting a smile on our Mother's face every day.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 28th from 4:30 P.M. to 7:30 P.M. at Porter Loring on McCullough.
