Elsie Elizabeth "Betty" Gilligan Lawrence

Elsie Elizabeth “Betty” Gilligan Lawrence, 96, passed away peacefully on November 17, 2020 in San Antonio, Texas. She was born in Peekskill, New York on March 17, 1924 to the late John and Elsie (Briggs) Gilligan.

Attended schools in Peekskill and graduated Croton-Harmon High School, Croton, New York. A veteran of World War II, she served in the Army as a cryptographer in France and Germany with the 3341st Signal Service Battalion.

Married Stewart John Lawrence on October 30, 1949 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Ossining, New York. They resided in Cortlandt Manor, New York until 1977 when they moved to San Antonio, Texas. Stewart passed away on March 30, 1994.

She is preceded in death by her husband and is survived by her daughter, Patricia Watson and husband, Leonard of San Antonio, Texas; son, John Lawrence and wife, Patricia of Calvert, Texas; and granddaughter, Elsie Jane.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., Monday, December 7, 2020, at Porter Loring Mortuary North.

Interment will follow in Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff, nurses, and Hospice care at Colonial Gardens and New Century Hospice as well as staff and nurses at Independence Hill and Brookdale Jones Maltsberger for the loving care they provided to Elsie in her later years.
