Elsie “Pat” Sellinger, beloved matriarch of our family, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 23rd. Pat was born on January 9th in Fayette, Alabama to Ida and Henry Wright, the youngest of nine children. In her early twenties, Pat traveled to San Antonio to visit her sister, Evelyn, fell in love with the city, and decided to make it her home. Pat worked in sales and modeled clothing at Frank Bros., an upscale clothing store in downtown San Antonio. Pat met Gerald Sellinger in San Antonio, where they married and raised two daughters. Gerald, who was an architect, designed and built their house in Canyon Lake in 1971. They retired there permanently in the mid-1980s.
Pat was a past member of the Architect Auxiliary in San Antonio. She was a member of the Canyon Lake United Methodist Church, the Canyon Lake Country Club, also known as the “Little Club,” the Wildflower Garden Club, the Newcomers, Turtles, and the First Friday Group. Pat loved life, was always fashionably dressed, and loved to dance. She enjoyed the wonderful community, relationships, and friends she made in Canyon Lake, especially her friends at the “Little Club.” Pat was very loved and she will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Sellinger, in 1989. Pat is survived by her four children: Robert Lowe and his wife, J.D., of Corpus Christi, Texas; David Lowe and his wife, Yvonne, of Katy, Texas; Cathy Cornett and her wife, Judy, of Cave Creek, Arizona; Kay Shapiro and her husband, Mike, of Austin, Texas; her nieces Sylvia Everett, Carolyn Haley, Nancy Jenkins, and their families of Wimberley, Texas, as well as ten grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren and her extended family in Alabama.
We would like to acknowledge and thank the Visiting Angels Kim Bailey and Jennifer Simecki for providing wonderful care for our mother for the last year and a half. They, along with Advanced Home Health, made it possible for her to remain in her home until a few days before her passing.
Memorial Services will be held Tuesday April 28th at 11:00 a.m. at Canyon Lake United Methodist Church. Burial to follow at 2:00 p.m. at Sunset Funeral Chapel in San Antonio. Donations may be made to Canyon Lake United Methodist Church or a charity of your choosing.
