

Emil Albert (Buddy) Schaefer, age 76, passed away on Tuesday, December 18 in San Antonio. He was born on December 28, 1941 in Junction, Texas to Charles William and Dorothy (Liverman) Schaefer. Emil was a man of character, devotion, brilliance and perseverance. He also had a wonderful sense of humor, was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend who truly cared for others. He was a hard worker and an avid high school athlete who earned scholarships based on merit and athletic talents. He graduated from Tarleton State College in 1964 with a degree in Chemistry with a minor in mathematics. Shortly thereafter, he married and then was drafted into the United States Army to fight in Vietnam. He served as a field artillery surveyor in the 8th Target Acquisition Battalion, 26th Artillery. After returning home, he mainly worked as a chemist in the oilfield production services sector retiring from Champion Technologies in 2008. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles William; and mother, Dorothy. Emil is survived by his wife, Martha Schaefer; daughters, Sherry Ahlstrom and Caroline Johnson; son Chris Schaefer; grand-daughters Nicole and Atea Johnson; brothers Charles William Junior, Dan and George; as well as the many friends he made along the way. A service will be held on Monday, December 31, 2018 at 1:00 P.M. at Porter Loring Mortuary North. Interment will follow in Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Michael J. Fox or Gary Sinise Foundations.
