Emilio "Rudy" Carreon Lopez entered into eternal rest on March 13, 2006, welcoming him with open arms was his beloved wife Barbara "Bobby" Lopez who preceded him to that wonderful place none of us can imagine on July 12, 2002.
His memory of our mother was filled with devotion and happy times; his sadness and ours as well would diminish as he told his stories about what he and our mother had done.
Embracing him in his passage are other departed loved ones: his parents, Emilio Lopez, Sr. and Maria Carreon Lopez; his son-in-law, Jesse Vasys; brothers: Ernesto Lopez, Raul Lopez; sisters: Mary Brennen, Eva Lopez; relatives, friends and co-workers.
He is survived by his two children, loving son: Edward Lopez; and loving daughter, Mary Esther Vasys; grandchildren, Erik Vasys and Veronika Vasys; two great-grandchildren, Alex Pantuso and Kole Pantuso; sister, Rebecca Castillo and her husband, Joe, and their children; many nieces and nephews: children of his deceased brothers and sisters; and many other relatives, family members and friends.
He will always be remembered for his wealth of knowledge, strong character, integrity, work ethic and sense of humor.
He served in the Pacific at Tinian Island in World War II with great pride while in the Army Air Corps. One of his most memorable moments in his military service was to get the aircraft "Enola Gay" ready the day before take off.not knowing what the mission would be until after the bombing. Col. Paul Tibbitts, the pilot, captured the moment with a memorable snapshot which was displayed at the command post.
When he returned to San Antonio after World War II his training in the military prepared him for a civil service career at Kelly AFB. Ultimately, he became a supervisor in the aircraft mechanics division retiring with various meritorious awards after 35 years of service at Kelly AFB. Additionally, humble beginnings provided him with skills and ability to launch his own successful business ventures.
All who knew him will keep his memory alive in their hearts and remember that he did on earth what the Lord wanted him to do. serving in the "Army of the Lord" in his own, very unique way.
