

He was a husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, nephew and cousin. He was raised in Somerset, Texas and was a member of the Somerset High School Class of 1959. He played football, track and basketball in high school and football while in college.
Ernie was a retired ordained minister of the gospel and a public school teacher who dedicated his life to preaching and teaching. He was ordained by the Church of God of Anderson Indiana graduating from Anderson University in 1966 and from Anderson University Theological Seminary with a Masters in Divinity in 1970.
He provided strong leadership to the Spanish speaking Churches of God in the United States and Latin America, serving 3 terms as the President of the Hispanic Council of Churches and later as Historian of the Hispanic Church of God. He pastored churches in Strawtown, Indiana, Somerset, Texas and two churches in the San Antonio area. His longest service was twenty-two years, as Pastor of the Prospect Hill Church of God, a bilingual church in San Antonio.
He was gifted with public speaking and was a true extrovert, thoroughly enjoying the company of others. He was active for many years with organizations in his hometown including the Somerset Lions Club, The Somerset Historical Society and the Somerset Ex-Student Association. He also served one term as Mayor Pro-Tem of Somerset. He was an avid golfer and also loved playing board games with his children and grandchildren on holidays.
He leaves behind his wife of 47 years, Jolene Sommers Lopez, brother Andrew Lopez and family of California, daughter Beatrice Lopez Moreno, sons Anthony (wife Diana), Joseph and Joshua (fiancée Stephanie Chan) and grandchildren Cameron and Caris Moreno, soon to be born Pearce Russell Lopez (due in October), numerous cousins and other family members.
Ernie will be greatly missed, though we know heaven is rejoicing.

Funeral: Saturday Sept 10th 9:30am at Porter Loring Funeral Home.
Interment immediately following at the Bluebonnet Cemetery in Somerset, Texas.
