Esequiel M. Campos III, age 84, passed away peacefully in San Antonio, Texas, on December 3, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. “Cheque,” or “Zeke” as he was lovingly known by family and friends, was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, son, brother, uncle, friend, and a father figure to many. His presence will be deeply missed.
His family was his pride and joy. He showed us unconditional love and made sure we always had what we needed. Dependable and generous, he never hesitated to help anyone in need. A hardworking man, he instilled strong values in his children.
He enjoyed working in his yard, visits to Basilica de San Juan, watching football—especially his beloved Dallas Cowboys—taking occasional trips to various casinos, and tinkering in his shed. He was a proud American and had a passion for both weather and history.
Faith played an important role in his life. He was a dedicated member of St. Pius X Catholic Church where he volunteered as an Arborean, helping care for the church grounds.
Esequiel is survived by many loved ones, including Gloria, his loving wife of 65 years whom he adored; five children that he cherished, Esmeralda (Dwayne), Gloria (Dan), John (Alessandra), Theresa (Roger), and Lydia (Nathan); 10 grandchildren that he was very proud of, Marc, Jessica, Kristen, Shanna, Regan, Sage, Austen, Corey, Sierra, and Clarissa; seven great grandchildren that filled him with joy, Liam, Luca, Amiyah, Brielle, Sienna, Leya, and Zai; his sister that he loved so much, Rosa (Sergio); and his fur baby--Max--that he spoiled with many treats and car rides. Esequiel was preceded in death by his parents, Esequiel Sr. and Consuelo, and siblings, Richard, Rojelio, Joe and Leticia.
He leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, dedication, and cherished memories that will forever remain in our hearts.
Family and friends are invited to honor his life during a visitation on December 9, 2025, from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Sunset Funeral Home, 1701 Austin Highway, San Antonio, TX 78218. A Rosary will follow at 6:30 p.m. at the same location.
A Funeral Mass will be held on December 10, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 3303 Urban Crest Dr, San Antonio, TX 78209.
The Committal Service will take place at 12:00 p.m. on the same day at Holy Cross Cemetery, 17501 Nacogdoches Rd, San Antonio, TX 78266.
The family extends sincere gratitude to Dr. Allyson Harroff and the staff at Texas Oncology for providing five years of exceptional care. We also wish to express heartfelt thanks to Daz, Alyssa, and Susan of Anchorage Hospice for their compassionate care.
