Ethel Virginia Barnes was born on August 25, 1920 and passed away peacefully in her home in San Antonio on January 14, 2014. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 67 years, LTC (Ret) Harold E. Barnes, and her loving daughter, Virginia Sue Kendall. Those who cherish her memory and will miss her greatly are her grandsons and their families: Andrew and Rebecca Kendall, Virginia Grace & Ethan of Denton, TX, and MAJ David and Catherine Kendall, Victoria & Silas of Shepherdsville, KY; and Ethel's son-in-law COL (Ret) Charles Kendall of Grand Prairie, TX, who is officiating at her Memorial Services.
Especially important to Ethel was her trust in God and of the memory of her grandmother's influence on her strong faith in Jesus Christ. She never failed to acknowledge his goodness to her. In her later years, she attended Sunday School at Shearer Hills Baptist Church.
Ethel is also survived by many family members and close friends. Notable among her closest friends are Dagmar and Bob Cain, who selflessly have served in her encouragement and care. Her family also wishes to express their appreciation to the ladies who served in her home care. Ethel was known for her gifts of support and hospitality, especially with the Texas A&M Alumni, and Beethoven Maennerchor and Damenchor organizations. All that knew her will miss her irresistible smile, warmth, encouragement, service, and the way she made everyone feel special.
The family will receive friends on Monday, January 27 at 11:00 A.M. at Porter Loring Mortuary North.
