Gene was born May 22, 1922 in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico, to Aurelio and Guadalupe Mireles.
He spent most of his youth in San Antonio where he attended both high school and junior college.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1942 through 1945 as a radio operator and was an integral member of the Signal Company involved in the assault of Iwo Jima, among other engagements during WWII.
On July 4, 1949 he married Alyce Travis Elizabeth Samuels and began a marriage that will endure through all time and eternity. He loved and adored Alyce more than life itself from the day he met her and will forever.
They moved to Eagle Pass, Texas, where he started his own business as a custom house and real estate broker. His career spanned over 40 years. He was equality active in his community as he always felt that it was his duty to give back to his community as much as it provided to him and his family.
An active participant of Our Lady of Refuge Catholic Church and school, he served on numerous boards and worked closely with the diocese.
With great honor he served as City Councilman and Mayor of the City of Eagle Pass, County Commissioner of Maverick County and served as a member on the Eagle Pass Independent School board and as President of the Board of Directors for the Eagle Pass Water Works System.
