
Eva Jo was born in Dallas, Texas on December 1, 1925. She was an only child and when her mom and dad moved to San Antonio in the late 1920s, young Eva Jo had already shown an affinity for music.
Following graduation from high school, she received a scholarship to study voice at the prestigious Peabody Academy in Baltimore. She started singing professionally while still a teenager, and at age 22 married her high school sweetheart, Keith McIntyre. They remained married until Keith's passing in 1997.
During the 1960s, Keith and Eva Jo were active members of the San Antonio art scene, founding a madrigal group that included many San Antonio luminaries.
Eva Jo was also a member of San Antonio Tuesday Musical Club. For almost three decades, Eva Jo was the primary soloist at Central Christian Church where she developed a 20-year partnership with choir director Harold Herndon and organist George Gregory.
She was also primary soloist at Porter Loring Mortuary for 30 years, and after she retired as a singer remained with Porter Loring as receptionist for another 30 years.
Eva Jo is survived by her daughter Lynne Dulmaine, her two sons Christopher McIntyre and Brian McIntyre, as well as six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and her dog, Lucy.
Eva Jo will lie in state beginning on Sunday, June 17th from 12:00 Noon until 9:00 pm at Porter Loring on McCullough.
A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday June 19, 2012 at 11:00 am at Porter Loring Mortuary.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to KPAC, the classical Public Radio station that Eva Jo listened to every day.
