Evelyn loved to take care of her family, friends and anyone she came in contact with. Everyone that knew her said that she was an amazing and wonderful light in their life. She never knew a stranger and went out of her way to make anyone feel welcome into her life. Evelyn always made it a point to make anyone she came in contact with to feel special and heard. She loved telling stories about her and Delvin’s adventures, her childhood and especially stories about her family. Evelyn was the caretaker of the family and shared that value of caring for others.
She loved to serve her church community in various ways. She was a member of the Community Evangelical United Church of Christ of San Antonio for 50+ years where she served on the church council, taught many years of Sunday School and was an active member of the Women’s Guild. Evelyn also loved making the green beans for the Community Church sausage dinner and organizing various events. Most recently, she was a member of Redeemer United Church of Marion, Texas. She felt that serving her church was a great way to serve the Lord.
Evelyn retired from the Judson Independent School District after 25 years as a food service manager. After she retired from Judson, Evelyn enjoyed traveling with family and friends to many different locations around the world. She loved to tell the stories of her travels. Her favorite spot to travel was the river lot that she and Delvin had in Seguin. During this time, she loved to host family and friends by having cookouts, fishing on the dock with her grandkids, floating the river in an inner tube, and celebrating many holidays with lots of food and drinks.
Another stop on her journey was sharing her German heritage with everyone around her. She loved to speak in German to family and friends. Evelyn loved to share traditions with the visitors at the Institute of Texan Cultures out in the Back 40 as a docent. She showed visitors how the pioneers used the different instruments such as a butter churn, wash board. The visitors were always in aww of watching her use the different instruments and hearing her explain that she used them as a child growing up. To her, it was sharing her life stories, but to the visitors it as an insight into how life was lived before the modern conveniences we have now.
Her most beloved journey here on earth was being called Omi. Evelyn loved to spend time with her grandkids and great grandkids. She would spend time with them by attending various sporting, recitals, and other events. Evelyn loved the drawings, homemade gifts, and hugs and kisses that they would give her. Her grandkids and great grandkids were the topics of many conversations with others and were a source of pride to her – especially when they would visit her at the Brooks of Cibolo-Assisted Living.
Evelyn lived each day to the fullest in her journey here on earth and passed wisdom, knowledge, and the passion for living life to the fullest each day. She passed on this passion to everyone that she met.
The family wishes to thank the Brooks of Cibolo Assisted Living, Elara Hospice, and all the care takers, family, and friends for all your support during this time.
