On Tuesday December 16th, 2025, Felix S. Lopez, loving husband, Father of four children, Grand Father to eight grandchildren and Great Grandfather to one great grandchild, passed away at the age of 87.
Felix was born on October 9, 1938, to Felix Lopez and Maria Sanchez Lopez. Felix was a high school graduate of Lanier High School in San Antonio, Texas Class of 1957. Felix spent majority of his career working in civil service at Kelly Air Force Base for 36 years. His first job at Kelly AFB was a warehouse helper WG-4 ($1.30/hr.) And finished his career as GS-12 Section Chief. After his retirement from civil service, Felix worked as a contractor for several years in Saudi Arabia for the Saudi Royal Air Force and Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC), Kelly AFB.
On November 30th, 1960, he married Angelina Saenz. They raised three sons and one daughter together. Felix was also a member of the Air National Guard in his 20s.
Felix was a caring husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend. He was the anchor and rock for the Lopez homestead. His parenting skills were harsh at times but fair. His “tough love” side was just as strong as his tenderness and caring side. Felix was a great provider to all his family. His words of wisdom and mentoring were just a few of his many strengths he gave to everyone he came into contact with. Felix was a strong leader and pushed his children/grandchildren to strive to be the best and always give it 110% no matter what. Felix came from very humble beginnings. His parents were immigrants from Mexico and worked as seasonal crop pickers that took the family to different parts of the U.S. He was a first generation born American citizen. Felix would often say “Even though I don’t have a college degree like all my children - MY EDUCATION CAME FROM THE SCHOOL OF HARD KNOCKS!”
Several of his favorite pastimes included watching the Dallas Cowboys, San Antonio Spurs and college football games. BBQ grilling fajitas and sausage while drinking a cold beer on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon were his specialty. And everyone was always welcome to enjoy his cooking. Felix was also known for his gift of great storytelling. His memory was still very intact all these years. He would tell his kids and grandkids about having a paper route for the San Antonio Light newspaper. This was his first real job. And how he loved Stacy Adams dress shoes sold in Penner’s Clothing store. At 15 years old he was able to convince Mr. Penner himself to give him credit to buy his first pair of Stacy Adams shoes. Felix was a sharp dresser and would wear the latest in men’s fashion suits, including his Stacy Adams dress shoes.
Felix was full of charm and charisma, and you felt his presence when he entered the room. He and his wife Angelina were amazing dancers, and both loved to attend dances with close friends and family. He also loved to travel. He loved Las Vegas and Disneyworld resorts in Orlando, Florida. The Lopez family vacations would involve driving cross country to vacation in Orlando, FL and going to all the Disney parks. But most of all he loved being a Grandpa to his eight grandchildren. From being a babysitter, picking them up from school, spoiling them at Christmas time, McDonald’s drive thru happy meals, buying toys at the dollar store to giving them advice as they got older and became young adults. Felix was especially excited when his great granddaughter was born and made him an even prouder Great Grandpa.
Felix is survived by his four children: Felix III (wife Belinda), Joe (wife Loretta), Michael (wife Cynthia) and Christina (husband Ernie).
Eight grandchildren; Genevie A. Lopez, Nina Lopez (husband Drew), Alejandro Lopez (wife Aki), Nicolas Lopez, Victoria Lopez, Trinity Lopez, Kaitlin Ybarra and Sophia Casiano. Great Granddaughter – Hikari Lopez. Siblings; Albert Lopez (wife Rosa), Julia Macias (husband Daniel) Connie Rosas (husband Joe) and Angie Martinez (husband Frank).
He is preceded in death by his parents Felix and Maria Lopez, brother Roy Mendolia, sisters Gloria Riveria, Blanca Aguilar, and Rosa Guitron.
Visitation will be held at Funeraria Del Angel Trevino Funeral Home on December 28, 2025, from 5:00 pm to 10:00 pm. A Holy Rosary will begin at 6:00 pm. The Mass of The Resurrection is scheduled for December 29, 2025, at 1:00 pm with interment to follow at San Fernando Cemetery II.
