Floyd E. Duncan, devoted husband, father and grandfather, was called home to be with the Lord on December 27, 2015 at the age of 89. He was born April 15, 1926 to John and Etta Duncan in Cameron, TX, and then grew up in Temple and San Antonio. After being stationed at Langley while serving in the Army Air Corps with duties at the Pentagon, he embarked on a trucking career with Brown Express and then Southern Pacific. For many years he competed and won at local, state and national Truck Roadeo competitions. Floyd was well known for his ability to squeeze trailers into the tightest of spaces and came to the rescue of many strangers at various campgrounds.
After retiring from Southern Pacific in 1984, he became a rural route postman for the USPS until 1993. Throughout his life he enjoyed hobbies of woodworking, square dancing, bowling, and traveling. He also studied his genealogy from which he discovered he is a Mayflower descendant from the line of John Howland.
Floyd is survived by Patricia Ann Duncan, his wife of 64 years with whom he traveled six continents and danced around Texas with the Camping Squares Club, of which he was a charter member. He is also survived by 4 children, Richard Duncan (Dianna) of St. Louis, MO, Debbie Zielins-Ikerd (Karl) of La Vernia, Bonnie Highsmith (Patrick) of Hondo, and David Duncan (Nancy) of Paramus, NJ; 10 grandchildren, Tanya, Mark, Tiffany, Sabrina, Kari, Benjamin, Lauren, Matthew, Troy, and Eric; and 2 great-grandchildren, Clark and Bradley; and many nieces and nephews who will all miss him immensely.
The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 P.M. on Wednesday, December 30, 2015 at Porter Loring Mortuary North.
