

Forrest Edward "Jack" Thornton born August 23, 1920 to Everett Edward Thornton and Winnie Davis Baird in Jonah, Texas, went to be with the Lord on the 9th of May 2004 at the age of 83. On December 24th, 1940 he married his high school sweetheart, Lois Virginia Ferguson, and from this union three children were born. During World War II Jack served in the US Army Air Corps. Upon receiving an honorable discharge in 1945 he returned to City Public Service and retired after 46 years. He began his career as a temporary meter reader and rose through the ranks to retiring in 1984 as Director of Energy Conservation Education and Assistance Program. During his tenure at CPSB he served on the Board of Directors of the Greater San Antonio Home Builders Association eventually becoming honorary life director, was a Director in the San Antonio Manufacturers Association, Executive Secretary of the Appliance and Electronics Association of San Antonio, member of the Illuminating Engineers Society of America and President of the Public Service Federal Credit Union. Following his retirement he became a charter member of the Lakehills Volunteer Fire Department. For 60 years, Jack was a Mason affiliated with both the Albert Pike Lodge No. 1169 and the Bandera Texas Masonic Lodge. Jack was preceded in death by his parents. Survived by his loving wife, Lois Thornton; three children, Jerry E. Thornton and his wife, Gina, Lawton, OK, Susan K. Thornton, and Patti Thornton White and her husband, George, all of San Antonio, TX; grandchildren, Steven E. Thornton and wife, Leann, Carin E. Thornton, and Travis G. White; great grandchild, Nathan Edward Thornton.
