Edith Frances Gibson Lance McMillon, age 81, passed away on Tuesday, February 26, 2013 in San Antonio, Tx. Frances was born on May 28, 1931, in Corpus Christi, TX, as a twin to her brother, William F. Gibson ("Sonny"). Being the only girl of six brothers, she was very special to her loving parents Edith and Rob Gibson. She graduated from Corpus Christi High School and received a degree in Accounting from the University of Houston.
She is survived by her husband James McMillon, and two brothers; her twin, Sonny, and an older brother, H.B. Gibson. She is predeceased in death by her first husband of 50 years, Earl K. Lance, and survived by four children (and their spouses), Earl Kenith Lance, Jr. (Anita), Edie Lance Hacker (Lonnie), Judy Lance Davison (Bill), Jennifer Lee Freeman (Jason) along with 8 grandchildren and one predeceased grandchild, Scott.
Frances and Earl moved to San Antonio in 1979 when Earl became an executive with Valero Corporation. They enjoyed playing golf and Bridge. She was blessed to find a loving partner later in life in Jim McMillon with whom she enjoyed traveling around the world as well as quiet companionship at home. Frances was a member of Coker Methodist for many years. After her marriage to Jim McMillon, they became members of Alamo Heights Methodist. Frances volunteered in school functions for kids, public services, golf tournaments, and many club functions. Later in life, Frances loved her morning "work-outs" (exercising and swimming) and was an avid golf and bridge player. She said the most rewarding part of her life was studying the Word of God through Bible Study Fellowship. Her love for her Lord never failed her through her bout with Leukemia. She had many dear friends that stayed with her continuously through their love, prayers, calls, cards, and blood donations. She said, "My children from all over the states never failed in their love for me. All I would have to do is call and one would arrive at a moment's notice." Frances wanted for all to remember: "Obituaries are always so sad and cold; so 'Goodbye' my dear ones, don't be sad. I had the most blessed life. Love you all so much. Thank you." Visitation will be at Porter Loring Mortuary North, 2102 N Loop 1604 E, San Antonio, TX, Thursday, February 28, 2013 from 6-8 pm.
