

He was born on December 21, 1935, in San Antonio to his parents Frank G. Huntress, Jr. of San Antonio and Corinne Peterson Huntress of New Orleans.
While living at the family ranch in Helotes (Rancho Diana, now a city park), he attended Travis Elementary and the San Antonio Academy where he graduated. After moving back to the city he graduated as Valedictorian of Texas Military Institute. He is a graduate of Stanford University (Class of 1957) with a degree in economics.
In 1958 he served six months active duty in the U.S. Army. Then, he joined the Express-News where he began his career as a newspaperman.
After the purchase of the Express-News in 1962 by Harte-Hanks, he began a company (Newspaper Color, Inc.) to advise Texas newspapers on how to print color photographs in their papers. In 1965 Fritz joined The Light as Editorial/Production Coordinator.
In 1971 Hearst hired him as Business and Production Manager of The Light where he remained for five years until being named General Manager of the San Francisco Examiner in 1976 where he spent two years.
He was also a partner with his father and brother, Logan, in starting a soft-drink bottling company that bottled Pepsi-Cola, 7-UP, and Schweppes products where he became President.
Fritz was a member of First Presbyterian Church, the Texas Cavaliers, Conopus Club, S.A. Quarterback Club, Longhorn Club, San Antonio Country Club, The Argyle, Order of the Alamo, and the S.A. German Club where he served as president in 1966.
He was predeceased by his parents and brother, Logan, and his nephew Christopher Harber Moore. He is survived by his wife, Joan; sons, Thomas Schilo Huntress, Frank “Granger” Huntress and wife, Tara, and sons Kepler and Colby; William “Todd” Huntress and wife, Allison, and son William; Robert “Mack” McGarraugh Huntress and wife, Stephanie, and daughters Samantha and Lilly; and daughter, Martha Jo (Martita) and husband, Jeffrey T. Olson, and son Hunter.
He is also survived by his sister, Diana Huntress, and his sisters-in-law, Janice Schilo Moore and Lynn Harwood Huntress, his nephews Harry Schumacher, Michael Schilo Moore, Logan Huntress Jr., Harwood Huntress, and nieces Carrie Siebert Jowers and husband Jeffrey, Mimi Siebert Bowen and husband Chad, Dottie Huntress Cooper and husband Douglas, Diana Calvert and husband Breyer, and Kristen Le Pere and husband Richard.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 5, 2021, at First Presbyterian Church. For those wishing to attend may call the family for the service time.
