Frankie Marie Armstrong

Frankie Marie was born in Brownwood, Texas, on August 27, 1913, to John Franklin and Willie Davis. She was predeceased by her husband of 65 years, Willis L. Armstrong. Their family included guardianship of her sister Goldene Livingston, Houston; and their daughter Gae Marie Bjork, San Antonio. Other surviving family members are grandchildren, Roger (Julia) Bjork of Round Rock; Brenda Firsich (Bill) of San Antonio; Deanna (Jim) Schattel of San Antonio; and Brian (Erin) Bjork of Houston. Her great grandchildren are Collin (Evelyn) Bjork; Elise (Hunter) Ruffin; James (Nicole) Schattel; Hunter (Claire) Schattel; Tommy, Pammy and Kayla Firsich; and numerous nieces and nephews.

For over forty years Frankie and Willis lived in Mission, Texas, where Willis farmed and Frankie was Administrator at Hidalgo Savings and Loan Association in Edinburg. Frankie held office in several organizations such as Order of the Eastern Star, Zonata International, and Garden Club. Beyond participating in activities at church, Frankie and Willis enjoyed social clubs that included bridge, canasta, and forty-two.

In 1982 they moved to San Antonio and became members of St. Mark's United Methodist Church. Frankie was active in United Methodist Women, received her 15-year service pin from the Blue Bird Auxiliary at Methodist Hospital, and enjoyed playing in multiple bridge clubs. She was in the forefront of family gatherings and played all types of games. A comment often heard from her great grandchildren was "My Great Grandmother won again!"

Frankie's final months were spent in the Renaissance House where she received loving care from all the staff and administrator, Rosa Rodriguez.

Frankie will lie in state at Porter Loring Mortuary North on Monday, July 27, 2015, from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m.
