Born and raised in San Antonio, Gaye graduated from Churchill High School as part of the class of 1980, where she was involved with Churchills dance team, the "Grenadier Drill Team." She later attended Texas Tech and UTSA. In her younger years, Gaye loved running, skiing, playing washers, and attending country music concerts where she could be found 2 stepping - with or without a partner. Gaye always cheered on the Cowboys, the Red Raiders, and the Texas Longhorns. She loved spending time near the water, whether it was by the ocean or skiing in one of the local Texas lakes. In the winter, Gaye was always either building a fire, thinking about building a fire, or sitting next to a fire.
When Devin and Kelby were growing up, Gaye had the most important job any mother could have - raising her young family. Over the years she also worked as a care giver at a Day Care, a merchandise manager at the Quarry, La Cantera, and The Palmer golf courses, as well as for Landmark Aviation as a receptionist. Gaye always welcomed people into her home and was locally famous for her chicken fried backstrap and her pot of beans. You would never catch her without a tan or her nails done.
Labor Day weekend 2006 Gaye decided to approach a group of men playing washers on the beach in Port Aransas and met the man who would become her husband, Shane Morris. There are varying accounts about who won that game of washers, but the end result was a win for everyone. They were married April 19, 2008 in Bulverde, Texas. If she hadnt married Shane, she probably would have married Toby Keith.
Gaye survived two bouts of breast cancer in her life because she was such a fighter.
She is preceded in death by her father, Jerry Burson and niece, McKenzie May. Gaye is survived by her husband of 14 years, Shane Morris; children, Devin Kleinfelder and wife Kristen and Kelby Bellows and husband Bradley and their father, James Kleinfelder; mother, Thelma Burson; sister, Jeri May and husband Richard; brother, Ken Burson and partner Deb; grandchildren, Kiernan, Kimber, and Millie; as well as numerous extended family members and a lifetime of friends.
