

Gena Frances Preston Smith went to be with her Lord and Savior at the age of 88 on Wednesday, April 2, 2008 in her home in San Antonio, Texas. Born in Ballground, Georgia, Gena was a true southern lady. Filled by God with the gift of hospitality, she enjoyed fussing over family and friends and cooking tasty meals from scratch. Anyone who met Gena experienced her gentle tenderness and walked away with a new friend. Always armed with perfectly matched earrings for any outfit, she embraced each day as a blessing from above.
Gena was preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband of 36 years, John Smith; brother, James Preston; and son-in-law, David Bartlett.
She is survived by her children; daughter, Judy Bartlett of San Antonio, Texas; son, Joe Smith and his wife, Ann of Cumming, Georgia; grandson, John Bartlett and his wife, Jennifer of Flower Mound, Texas; grandson, Brian Smith and his wife, Kelly of Ashland City, Tennessee; granddaughter, Sandy Cooper and her husband, Glen of Goodlettsville, Tennessee; great-granddaughters, Whytney Layne Bartlett, Kyley Raye Bartlett and Taylor Leigh Cooper.
Family expresses their deepest appreciation to friends who have loved and supported Gena throughout her life as well as the medical professionals who tended to her.
