

She was born in Chelsea, OK, October 3, 1919, the daughter of Gladys and Alva Sullivan. She was married to the then Maj. Charles C. Underwood November 3, 1945 at Fort Sam Houston. They had been stationed at Fort Sam Houston from 1960 to 1964 and returned to San Antonio after Col. Underwood's retirement in Hawaii in May 1972.
She grew up in Amarillo and graduated from Amarillo High School. She attended Amarillo College and West Texas University. From December 1941 until September 1945 she worked for the Army Air Force at Kelly and Randolph Air Bases and in the Pentagon. She was a member of St. John Neumann Catholic Church, San Antonio Conservation Society and the Windcrest Women's Club.
She is survived by a daughter, Victoria Lambdin, husband Mark and their daughter, Rebecca of San Marcos; son, Dr. Charles Underwood, Jr. of Kittery Point, ME and his three daughters, Megan Christian, husband Jamie and their daughter Riley and son Dylan Charles of Parker, CO, Sarah Farhbach and husband Chris of Newburgh, NY, and Emily Underwood of Cornwall on the Hudson, NY; son, James M. Underwood, his son James E. Underwood, presently stationed in Korea, and his daughter Michelle Underwood of San Antonio; and sister, Betty Carr and her husband Bob of Lubbock, TX.
