George married his college sweetheart, Betty Johnson and immediately enlisted in the Navy's flight training program, serving tours of duty patrolling the shores of North Africa for German U-boats and training new aviators.
Upon discharge in 1946, he continued to serve in the Naval Reserves retiring in 1979 earning the rank of Commander.
George is pre-deceased by his parents, George, Sr. and Beulah Roberts Delavan; and his sister, Connie Baines and her husband, Roy.
Growing up in San Antonio, George enjoyed the companionship of his many cousins, aunts and uncles throughout the Hill Country, spending summers hunting and working on their ranches.
At age 12, George rode his horse solo to Bandera, Kerrville, returning to San Antonio. He remained an avid hunter for life, teaching his children and grandchildren to hunt, and enjoying the company of many fine friends.
George started several businesses in his career, most as a real estate developer, including the origination of Castle Hills Estates and Elm Creek. He built the first air conditioned indoor shopping center, North Town Plaza.
George will be remembered for his infectious smile, generosity to all, vast community service, and timeless, selfless service to his church. He and Betty are seminal members of Covenant Presbyterian Church, serving in many capacities including Ruling Elder. He served for the Funding and Management Division of Mission Presbytery, and Advisory Director Mo-Ranch.
