

Lt. Col. George A. Lockhart, Jr. passed away Wednesday, August 10, 2022, at his home in San Antonio, Texas, at the age of 98, surrounded by family. He was born in Anchorage, Alaska on May 20, 1924, to Col. George A. Lockhart, Sr. (of Niles, Kansas) and Angeline Harbaugh Lockhart (of Minneapolis, Kansas), and was preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, Betty Lee Spivey Lockhart.
On August 21, 1944, he enlisted in the U.S Army Air Corps at Niles, Kansas. During WWII, he served as a navigator with the 390th Bomb Group (Framlingham, England) and later as a meteorologist in the Korean and Vietnam wars. After 30 years of service, he retired from the Air Force on June 30, 1973, in San Antonio. He then worked at AAA as a travel agent until 1989.
For over 15 years, he was a volunteer librarian at Regency Place Elementary School, in San Antonio, which gave him great joy. He was named an NEISD outstanding volunteer and was a recipient of Presidents Bushs "Points of Light" volunteer award. Students gave him the honorary title of "Boy Librarian."
Survivors include daughters, Terri Ann Lockhart Muha and Elizabeth Jean Lockhart, of London, Ohio; daughter, Margaret Blanche Lockhart, of San Antonio; son, William George Lockhart, and daughter-in -law, Tina Lopez Lockhart, of San Antonio; and two grandsons, Nicolas Quint Lockhart, and Tristan Cody Lockhart, of San Antonio.
