George Franklin Pierce, beloved child of God, treasured husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend departed this world on January 19, 2024, at the age of 75. While his last years were affected by Parkinson’s Disease and finally dementia, he lived a beautiful life of joy and service.
Born on November 17, 1948, in Ada, Oklahoma, George embodied the virtues of hard work, dedication, and loyalty. Perhaps his chief attribute was his humility. He never sought the limelight but preferred to work quietly in the background. He is preceded in death by his parents, Garvin Audrey Pierce and Dorothy Laura Kaiser Pierce; brother, Thomas Pierce; and sister, Carolyn Pierce Mason. George moved from Ada and Sulphur, Oklahoma, to Loveland, Colorado, as a teen, graduated with honors from Loveland High School and from his beloved Alma Mater, the University of Colorado, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Marketing. His high intelligence, engineering mind, and even until his last days- a “math brain,” enabled him to pursue a career in logistics.
George's professional journey led him to a distinguished career as a civilian logistician with the Department of the Army. For 33 years, he served with honor and commitment, starting as a supply intern at Ft. Carson, Colorado, and later dedicating his service to 5th Army Headquarters in San Antonio, Texas. In 2005, George retired as Assistant Chief of Staff for Logistics, leaving behind a remarkable legacy of excellence and professionalism. He was dedicated to the mission of the US Army and military readiness and was a respected professional standing at the side of the US military and serving with great distinction, earning many awards and accolades throughout his career.
Above all, George was a devoted family man. He was a loving and faithful husband to Jeanette Marie Pierce for 46 years, sharing a bond built on trust, respect, and unwavering support. Together, they created a home filled with love and warmth. They enjoyed traveling together, supporting the arts, and service to community.
George Pierce was a good man! His role as a father was one he cherished deeply. He is survived by his daughter, Jill and her husband, Frank Piazzi. As an Aging Lifecare Professional, Jill served as his advocate in his treatment and care. George is also survived by son and daughter-in-law, James and Tamara Peters, who will cherish their memories of him.
The arrival of his granddaughter, Corina Marie Trevino, brought immeasurable joy to George's life, and the bond they shared will live on in her heart forever.
George leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion within his extended family. He is also survived by his sisters and brothers-in-law: Kay and Harry Griffin, Mary and Mike Finney, Jean Lamb, Marsha Pierce, Gary Mason, Liz and Mel Crissey, and Colleen Fitzgerald. In addition, George loved his former son-in-law, Daniel Trevino, and his nieces and nephews and their children: Terri and Kevin Thompson, John and Pam Wallace, Matt and Dori Finney, Tyler Finney and Chynna Hernandez, Scott and Meghan Finney, Anne Finney, Laura Pierce, Ryan and Sarah Mason, Megan and Zach Baugh, Laura Crissey, and Kevin Crissey and Emma Reynolds.
With a deep passion for cycling, woodworking, and automotive engineering and racing, George found fulfillment in creating beautiful pieces and experiencing the thrill of watching anything that could be raced. He loved working on his classic 1956 Ford pickup truck. These hobbies allowed him to express his creativity and embrace the joy of pursuing his passions. He loved good food including his favorite fried catfish, barbecue, and coconut cream pie.
George's faith was an integral part of his life. He was a dedicated member of MacArthur Park Lutheran Church for 46 years, finding solace, guidance, and a sense of community within its walls. He actively participated in ushering and adult Sunday School, deepening his connection with God and his fellow worshippers. As part of his congregation’s mission to serve community, he volunteered for many years as a builder with Habitat for Humanity and worked with the Community Based Advocacy team. Because of his experience in logistics, he was asked to represent the ELCA South Texas Synod in preparing for and managing disasters.
On Saturday, February 3, 2024, a funeral service honoring George's life will be held at MacArthur Park Lutheran Church, 2903 Nacogdoches Rd., San Antonio, Texas 78217. A visitation time at 10 AM will be followed by the funeral service at 11 AM led by Pastor Ricardo Jimenez-Reyes. Pallbearers include Matthew Finney, Scott Finney, Patrick Griffin, Frank Piazzi, Jason Starin, and John Wallace. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to Habitat for Humanity of San Antonio, MacArthur Park Lutheran Church Community Garden, or the Alzheimer’s Association.
The family is grateful to the compassionate professionals at Colonial Gardens Memory Care, his doctors at UT Health San Antonio, and Christus Santa Rosa Hospital-Medical Center for their loving care in his last days.
May we cherish the memories we shared with George Franklin Pierce, a man of honor, love, kindness, and deep commitment. His legacy will live on in our hearts and minds, and his spirit will continue to guide and inspire us. May he rest in eternal peace.
