Born in Texarkana, Texas, to parents William Paul Maxwell and Velma Alta Morris Maxwell, Georgia was one of four siblings – her twin brother, Eddie, and two sisters, Mary Ann and Daisy. Georgia spent most of her adult life in San Antonio where she met and married Jack Stieren in 1958. After losing her husband in 1969, Georgia devoted her life to family and raising their two children, Michael and Jennifer.
Georgia enjoyed social activities as a Mary Kay consultant, member of the Red Hat Society, and was an avid supporter of her church, Holy Spirit, for many years. Her favorite hobby was ballroom dancing, where she competed in and won several competitions. Other favorite things included all types of music, the beauty of nature, talking long walks, and the colors red and pink.
She also loved to travel with her children, often taking her mother along, who she cared for until 2004. With a heart as big as the state she resided in, Georgia spent her life in service to others. In her later life, Georgia’s favorite things to do were going to lunch with friends or her son, going shopping, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. As a beloved mother, mother-in-law, and Memaw, she will be greatly missed.
Georgia was proceeded in death by her parents, Paul and Velma, her husband, Jack, her sister, Mary Ann, her twin brother, Eddie, and her beloved son, Michael. In addition to her sister Daisy Williard of Spring Branch, Georgia is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Stieren of Seattle, her daughter-in-law Kim Stieren of San Antonio, her grandson Grady Stieren and wife Kara of New Braunfels, her granddaughter Jessyca Varela and husband Mark of Aransas Pass, and five great-grandchildren, Maddoxx, Kasen, Axxel, Myla, and Maverick.
Services will be held January 26th at 9:30a.m. at Holy Spirit in San Antonio followed by a reception at her home. In lieu of flowers, please consider honoring Georgia with a donation to one of her favorite charities such as St. Jude’s or the Food Bank of San Antonio.
