

Gerald “Jerry” Miller, age 98, passed away on Thursday March 12, 2026 in San Antonio, Texas. Born in Gettysburg, Ohio, to parents H. Ray Miller and Ruth Brewer. Jerry graduated from Miami University of Ohio. Jerry worked his entire career at Armco Steel (AK Steel) as a corporate strategist up until his retirement. Since his retirement, Jerry and his wife Alta of 68 years, had enjoyed traveling throughout the US and abroad to both tourist locations and religious locations worldwide. Jerry was very active in the church both in the choir and as a deacon. He served in churches in Ohio along with a few in the other states that he resided in. He also was active serving his community through multiple organizations. Jerry worked at organizations such as The Crisis Pregnancy Center, worked as an aid in local hospitals and volunteered at the SAMS shelter going downtown nightly to help in registering people and distributing nightly goods to those in need. He and Alta would also volunteer as chaperones at one of the local Explorer Scouts chapters in Ohio and Jerry also served on the board of the local tennis club. Jerry was preceded in death by his wife Alta, his parents Ray and Ruth Miller, his daughter Julia Hodson, and his brothers Harold Miller and Elton Miller. He is survived by his son Stephen Miller and his wife Tammy, his grandchildren Monica Sample, Zachary Hodson, Alexander Hodson, Clayton Hodson and numerous great-grandchildren. Through his life Jerry always enjoyed volunteering to help others. He enjoyed the outdoors, golfing into his late 70’s, tennis into his early 80’s and his main hobby, stained glass. Jerry would design and make anything from custom stained glass garden stones, Tiffany lamps and stained-glass bird houses.
A Visitation will be held on Friday, April 10, 2026 from 11:30a-1:00p at Sunset Funeral Home with interment follow at the same location at 1:30p.
