Geraldine Jerry Traugott, nee Roemer, was born on July 9, 1923 to Leoba Sharper and Arthur George Roemer. Jerry passed away on Wednesday, March 17, 2010. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Daniel Frederick Traugott, and her first born daughter, Dana Lynn Traugott. She is survived by five children and their spouses, Tyler and Sybil Traugott, Kathryn Wilson, Pony and Larry Karam, Roemer and Willette Traugott, Lisa and Raul Contreras; six grandchildren and their spouses, Dr. Bianca and Doug Harbison, Jerod and Liz Karam, Tai and Henry Molano, Khara Karam, Garrett and Lori Karam, Dana Traugott; three great grandchildren, Blair, Dane, and K.K. Harbison; her sister, Patricia Loretta Barnes; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A life-long resident of San Antonio, Jerry attended St. Gerard's and St. Martin Hall elementary schools and Our Lady of the Lake High School and College. On April 21, 1943, she married her beloved Dan before he was shipped out to serve his country during World War II. Upon Dan's return, Jerry was chief campaign manager for each of his five successful bids for county commissioner.
Jerry lived life to the fullest. She loved to dance, entertain, work in her yard, and play bridge. Until her death, she continued to play monthly with her 'original' bridge club, a group that has been together for over 60 years. Additionally, she played every Saturday and participated in the Symphony Bridge Marathon. Her many bridge friends have provided love and support throughout the years and enriched her life in many ways.
Jerry's personality and organizational skills caused many people to gravitate toward her and made her a natural leader as evident in many religious and civic organizations: president of Kappa Sigma Phi Sorority, Our Lady of the Lake Alumni Association, Gibbons Literary Club, St. Luke's Altar Society, St. Martin Hall PTC, Good Earth Garden Club; board member of Sultanas de Bejar, San Antonio Symphony League, St. Luke's Parish Council, St. Peter's and St. Joseph's Children's Home, Archdiocesan Council of Catholic Women, Antonian High School PTA, Central Catholic PTA, Ursuline Academy PTA, Bexar County Park Development, Our Lady of the Lake Development. A highlight of her life was being inducted into the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem and reaching the highest rank, Lady Grand Cross Holy Sepulchre.
Jerry provided many cherished memories for her family by decorating her home for every holiday, attending every school function and athletic event in which her children participated, and planning many successful family vacations throughout the United States and Mexico.
In addition to her outward beauty, Jerry possessed a radiant spirit which shown through in all she did -- beloved wife, devoted mother, loving grandmother and great-grandmother and loyal friend. She will be missed by all.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Alicia Ortiz, Mom's trusted companion and friend for many years.
