Gerard Anthony Avila passed away on October 15, 2025, just one day shy of his 52nd birthday. A true original, Gerard lived a life full of passion, purpose, and heart. He was a husband, father, grandfather, brother, friend — and to many, simply “Popo,” the best there ever was.
Born on October 16, 1973, Gerard’s life was one of relentless drive and deep commitment to both his craft and his family. A man of many talents, he was a boxer, jeweler, welder, HVAC technician, fisherman, gunsmith, and volunteer firefighter. He was the proud owner of JTSK Jewelry, Big Daddy’s Metal Works, Big Daddy’s Tattoos, and Vato Loco Para Cristo, each business reflecting his hands-on spirit and creative vision.
He was also the founder of the Latinos Unidos Car Club and the Latin Skulls Motorcycle Club, building communities rooted in pride, loyalty, and unity. Gerard had a deep love for his culture, his people, and above all, his family.
Gerard was preceded in death by his parents, Gloria and Richard Martinez; grandparents, Ignacio and Maria L. Avila; his beloved aunt, Maria Teresa Avila; grandmother-in-law, Manuela “Lil Grandma” Estrada; and mother-in-law, Gloria Estrada.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Marsha S. Avila; his children: Johnathan (Victoria) Saenz, Theadora (Jose Santiago) Morales, Savannah (Nathan) Uribe, Kaitlyn (Elijah) Ortiz, and Alonie Avila. Gerard was a proud and loving grandfather to Zahara Saenz, Bailey Saenz, Kemper Saenz, Beso Ponce, Xiomara Morales Avila, Jose Santiago Morales Avila, Ariella Uribe, Riley Uribe, and Kamille Ortiz.
He also leaves behind his siblings: Richard (Sylvia) Martinez Jr., San Juan (Anabelle) Martinez, Vangie Martinez, Ronney (Rosa) Martinez, and Valerie (Soltero) Martinez; his aunts and uncles, Rosa Avila, Veronica (Ralph) Baiza; as well as a large extended family of nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless dear friends whose lives were touched by his generosity, humor, and fierce loyalty.
Gerard lived boldly and loved deeply. He was a protector, a provider, and a pillar of strength. Whether he was casting a line on the water, crafting something beautiful with his hands, riding with his club, or holding his grandbabies close, he did everything with his whole heart.
His legacy will live on in the family he built, the communities he created, and the lives he inspired
