Gilbert V. Sfc Martinez

Gilbert was born in Waelder, Texas on February 4, 1928 to Crespin and Rafaela Villalpondo Martinez into a large family of 12 children.

He honorably served our country for over 25 years, mostly in a pipeline engineer company with tours of duty in Germany, France, Korea, Thailand, Vietnam and stateside deployments throughout the United States.

Gilbert was a devout member of Holy Name Catholic Church.

Gilbert is preceded in death by his first wife Jane; his beloved wife of 46 years, Adelfina; daughter, Virginia; parents, brothers and sisters.

Gilbert is survived by his children: John Martinez and wife, Denise; Robert Martinez and wife, Jill; Theresa Rodriguez and husband, Basilio; Ruben Martinez and wife, Carol; and Efrem Martinez and partner, Phillip; eight grandchildren: Michael, Michael E.J., Jennifer, Melissa, James, Maria, Dolores and Ronnie; seven great-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild; four sisters: Josefina Nava, Rosa Garcia, Julia Almarez and Martina Hernandez; numerous nieces, nephews and other family.

The family expresses their sincere gratitude and appreciation to Dr. Robert Tavera, Metropolitan Methodist Hospital and Gentiva Hospice for the love and care of Gilbert in his final days.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 11th from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Porter Loring Mortuary on McCullough Ave.
