Gilbert’s greatest pride and joy was his family. He was a devoted husband to Margaret Solis, his cherished wife of 67 years. Together, they built a beautiful life and raised three children—Robert (Rachel) , Richard (Katy), and Laura (Gabriel). Gilbert was also a proud grandfather to seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren, each of whom brought him immeasurable happiness and pride.
A man of faith, family, and service, Gilbert lived his life with purpose. As a boy, he served as an altar server until the age of 17, instilling values that guided him throughout his life. Music also brought him joy, and he shared that gift by playing in a neighborhood band alongside his brother, Daniel.
At 19, Gilbert enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, where he honorably served his country for four years. Following his military service, he answered another calling: public service. He joined the San Antonio Police Department, as a Police Officer where he served with dedication, courage, and integrity for 33 years. He continued his career with San Antonio Police Department for an additional 10 years as a Service Agent.
Known for his quiet strength, steadfast faith, and warm sense of humor, Gilbert was a pillar to his family, friends, and community. His legacy of service, love, and devotion will continue to live on in the many lives he touched.
He will be deeply missed, but his memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved him.
