Gladys Patricia Stalbird, age 89, entered into eternal peace, Tuesday, February 19, 2013 in San Antonio. She was born March 17, 1923, St. Patrick's Day, in San Antonio, Texas. Gladys married the love of her life, Bill Stalbird, after high school in 1942 and became a war bride at home while he served our nation in France and Germany.
Over the years their family grew to five. Gladys was a nurturing mother and friend. She was an artist who loved painting in oil and completing astonishing likenesses of "Movie stars" in pen and ink portraits. For a time, she worked as a teller at the American State Bank, but her most cherished job was being a loving (and loved) wife and mother.
Gladys will be remembered for her spunk by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was certain she wouldn't leave this earth until she was at least one hundred.
She was preceded in death by, her parents, Wilma and Pat Patton; her sister, Lorraine Harris and husband Phil; her brother, Walter Patton and wife June; and Gladys' loving husband, Bill Stalbird. Gladys is survived by her youngest brother, Clarence Patton and wife Cathy; her sister-in-law, Mary Ruth Stalbird; her brother-in-law, Elward Trayler; children, Sherrie Jowers and husband Jeffrey, Penni Hersrud and husband Dan, William Merritt Stalbird; her grandchildren, Chad Jowers and wife Kim, Scott Jowers and wife Lesa, Sunni Stalbird, Dani Hersrud, Jeffrey Hersrud and wife Sarah, Matthew Stalbird and Jamie Stalbird; her great-grandchildren, Rylee and Claire Jowers, Rhys, Sela and Alice Jowers, Dylan, Jordyn and Loryn Hersrud, Sydney Hersrud and Phoenix Stalbird, and numerous caring nieces, nephews and friends.
The family wishes to thank Kimberly and Rodney Dean, Peggy and Maurice Elmer at Creekside Personal Care who lovingly cared for our mother in her last days.
