

Glenn was born in Mansfield, Ohio to Paul Francis Newlon and Elsie Pearl Moyer. He graduated from St. Peter's High School, class of 1951, where he was taught by Franciscan nuns. Two of the nuns were his great aunts.
He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry from Bowling Green State University in Ohio and worked towards a second degree, a Bachelors of Arts in Real Estate from the University of Texas at El Paso.
He was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Field Artillery Branch and later transferred to Air Defense. Overseas assignments included South Korea, Vietnam, Japan, Taiwan and Saudi Arabia. Continental U.S. assignments were Air Defense Missile Systems at Los Angeles, Sage System Norton AFB, Washington D.C./Baltimore; and Fort Bliss, Texas. He named the Patriot System and directed the early test and evaluation of this system while at the Air Defense Board.
He enjoyed his canine companion Boxer "Blitzen", traveling, painting, gardening, genealogy, history and biography reading, walking, volksmarches, classical and contemporary music. An avid Civil War buff, he enjoyed visiting historical battlefields and monuments.
He was a member of the San Antonio Board of Realtors and a broker for over twenty years. He was an active member of the Beethoven Maennerchor. He was a previous member of the Rotary Club of San Antonio, and a St. Andrew Lutheran Church charter member.
Glenn is survived in death by his wife of twenty-two years, Ilse, a generous person of great spirit and caring nature whose patient, loving care was greatly appreciated. He is also survived by his sister, Rita Hoeffler; son, Eric Newlon; step-daughter, Deborah Guenther; grandchildren, Kai, Marco, McKenzie, Benjamin, Austin and Audrey; step-daughter, Tamara Chafin and husband Michael; step-son Mike Bailey and wife Robin; step-son, Kenneth Bailey; and brother-in-law Klaus-Dieter Kuhlmann and wife Gea.
