

Gloria Alvarado Saldana went to be with her Lord, April 4, 2020. Gloria was born in McAllen, Texas, November 17, 1928 to J. Francisco Alvarado and Dolores Sifuentes Alvarado. She was their only daughter of seven children. In McAllen she attended local schools and when she graduated from High School, she attended Incarnate Word College in San Antonio and then Baylor School of Nursing in Dallas. Except for a break in service to raise her daughter, she pursued a career as a Registered Nurse, practicing in Valley Baptist Hospital in Harlington, as a school nurse at San Isidro, as a staff nurse of Brooke Army Medical Center, a staff nurse for the Dept. of Health in San Antonio and finally as a school nurse at Edgewood Independent School District retiring from EISD in 1989. Gloria held a Nurse's License for the state of Texas; Texas Teachers Certificate for lifetime provisional school, she was a member of the Texas Association of school nurses and a member of the following civic/social clubs: Pan American Opti-Mrs; Texas Society of Professional Engineers Aux., Aggie Wives Club, Universal Friendship Council, Mexican American Business Professional Women's Club and Holy Spirit Altar Society. She enjoyed decorating, shopping, playing Bunco and Bingo and her Friday night dates with her beloved husband, Arthur.
Gloria was preceded in death by husband, Arthur D. Saldana; brothers, Manuel, Juan, Luis, Antonio, Rodolfo and Simon. Gloria is survived by her beloved and only daughter, Dr. Sonya Saldana Ruff and husband, Michael J. Ruff.; grandchildren, Rachel, Nicholas and Noah Ruff. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
