

She was born on May 29, 1929 in Weslaco, Texas to Jasper and Mary Brixey, who preceded her in death.
Brixey graduated from Weslaco High School in 1946 and Texas A&I University in Kingsville, Texas in 1950. She received her Masters Degree from the Incarnate Word University in San Antonio, Texas in 1982.
She taught public school for 35 years in Pearsall and taught at her own private kindergarten for two years in Pearsall.
After retiring from teaching Home Economics Cooperative Education at Fox Tech High School in 1987, Brixey studied art at the McNay Art Institute under local and national art instructors. She entered many state and local watercolor exhibitions, having many paintings accepted into these shows. The highlight of Brixey's art activities culminated in her winning the Onderdonk Award at the San Antonio Art League Museum in 1997 with a woven painting call "Masquerade". This picture also won Best of Show and a one thousand dollar Purchase Award. Additional honors Brixey received included Signature Membership in the Texas Watercolor Society.
She loved to garden and worked among flowers as long as she had the energy.
She has three loving children, Mary Grace Hix, Susie McKinley and John Sutton and their spouses, Randy Hix, Ike McKinley and Sally Sutton. She has seven loving grandchildren, Jeff Simpson, Liz and Carrie McKinley, James and Audrey Hix and Shelby and Emma Sutton. She is survived by one sister, Mildred Gernentz and numerous nieces and nephews. Her Brother, J.D. Brixey, Jr. and sister, Sue Wharton, preceded her in death.
