

Gretchen Hayford Peisinger was a devout Catholic throughout her life. Born in 1934, she was one of four children to Warren and Mable Hayford, where the family spent much of its time living on the East Coast around Washington D.C.
She came from a proud Military family and chose to create a similar family by marrying Roman Joseph Peisinger, Jr. on June 10, 1954 upon his graduation from West Point. She was a devoted wife. Joe and Gretchen spent many happy years together in the United States and foreign locals finally choosing to leave the military and settle in San Antonio.
Gretchen enjoyed the arts concentrating upon painting and crafts throughout her life, her talent in sewing was unsurpassed, her mid-life she participated in both teaching Tole Painting at Lions Field and participating in art fairs down on the River Walk.
Another lifelong enjoyment was acting, singing and dancing. She began learning to dance at three years old, engaged in many of her high school productions and played the cello. As an adult she and Joe participated in both ballroom dancing and at the Towers line dancing.
Gretchen was a dedicated mother, having raised six children and benefited from the blessing of six grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. Towards the end of her life, Gretchen was known to indicate that family is what she valued most, looking at the numbers, she was very wealthy indeed.
