Guadalupe "Lupe" Vasquez, age 77, passed away peacefully on 13 October 2021, after a very long and brave battle with cancer. Lupe was born in San Antonio, Texas on 4 October, 1944 to parents Evaristo Sr. and Tomasa Vasquez. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Rose Marie Vasquez; two sisters, Lydia Downing, Alicia "Licha" Guzman; and brother, Roberto Vasquez. He graduated from Fox Tech Vocational High School in 1963 where he excelled in Radio/TV and shortly after joined the United States Air Force.
Sgt. Guadalupe Vasquez was honorably discharged in 1967. In March 1968 he started what would be a very successful 30 year career at Kelly AFB. During this time he received numerous accolades and performance awards for his knowledge and expertise in the repair of Avionics systems on various aircraft including C5A. Lupe was the "go to guy" for diagnostic troubleshooting and repair. Co-workers, peers, supervisors and managers heavily relied on him many times. He had the capability to fix just about anything either by repairing or redesigning what was there. A quality he used for family and friends.
His life touched so many. He was an avid book reader and loved fishing. Lupe was a very loving and caring husband and an amazing father and grandfather. Nothing meant more to him than his family.
He is survived by his wife, Sydney Vasquez; three daughters, Rachel Vasquez, Alice "Becks" Galan and husband James, and Maxlyn "Squink" Vasquez and husband Roger Sauseda Jr.; son, Vincent Paul Vasquez and wife Brooke Vasquez; eight grandchildren whom he doted on and adored: Addison, Sloane, Bennett and Everett Vasquez, Nathanial and Violet Galan, Maxlyn "MacKenzie" and Ryan Sauseda. He was always there for his siblings and will be greatly missed by his three brothers, Evaristo Vasquez Jr, Carlos Vasquez, and Daniel Vasquez; and three sisters, Janie Castillo, Mary Elizabeth (Chavela) Carmona, and Patricia Melton; as well as many nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends, Mr. Homer and Mrs. Sylvia Caldera.
Per his wishes, Lupe will be cremated by Porter Loring Mortuary. No memorial service is planned at this time. Memorials in his honor can be made to the Support for People with Head and Neck Cancer at https://www.spohnc.org/donate-to-spohnc/
