Harold Calvin Robertson, 66, of San Antonio, TX, went home to be with the Lord on April 13, 2023. He was surrounded by family and friends until his final breath was taken. Hal is survived by his wife Viola of 36 years, daughter Andrea, son Calvin and daughter in law Kelsey, son in laws, Landon and Clint, and four grandchildren – Evelyn, Zachary, Elijah and Jace.
Hal is also loved and survived by his father Earl, brothers Dana and Alan, brother and sister in laws Mark, Bob, Anna, Esta, Johnny, Cathy, mother-in-law – Sue, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. And by the many Friends who were fortunate enough to have been just that… his Friend.
He is preceded in death by his loving mother, Natalie and sister Rosalie.
Harold was known as “Hal”, by all who were fortunate to have known him. Hal was born in Hartford, CT. After graduating high school, he joined the United States Air Force. He was stationed at Randolph Air Force Base in Universal City, TX. He enjoyed his time in the USAF while learning skills that he used for the rest of his life. Hal always found enjoyment in his various professions. He started a successful pest control corporation, a real estate home inspection company, was a licensed irrigation designer, and lighting and landscape professional. His work ethic was unsurpassed. His carpentry skills and knowledge of framing, plumbing and electrical systems allowed him and Viola to enjoy time together remodeling and improving the homes they shared.
Hal was always willing to share his experiences, his wisdom, and his sense of humor with others. He enjoyed fishing, camping and carpentry. Karate was a passion of his as a child and through his adulthood. He earned a black belt through the World Shorinryu Karate do Association and then taught at his own dojo for a few years.
His love for his family was priority one. His devotion to his wife Viola, their children and grandchildren shone through in everything he did. Hal will live on through each of them. He was an influence in so many people’s lives.
Hal fought the good fight. The cancer took his body. What it couldn't take was his spirit. He handled the battle with this disease with dignity.
He will be missed immensely. We find comfort knowing that he has Jesus Christ as his Savior, and he is no longer in pain. We also find comfort in knowing everyone who spent time in his life has some awesome memories and some lessons of their own to share.
Our family wants to say a special thank you to Pastor Sean Metcalf of Community Bible Church. Not only did he visit and pray with Hal during his final days at the hospital, but he also provided Hal with one of his last things on his bucket list – to be baptized as an adult. This baptism took place in our home on Hal’s last day on this earth.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to American Cancer Society to help and support the funding of research into finding the cure for cancer. Please click this link for donations:
