

Helen Joan Hardy Burton, 75, of San Antonio, TX, wife, mother, grandmother, friend and the 1988 "Texas Mother of the Year", passed away on Thursday, July 17, 2014. She was born in Linwood, NJ, on October 17, 1938 to the late Roland and Pearl Margaret Hardy.
Helen received a Bachelor's degree in Business Education from the University of Utah in 1960, which set a pattern for her life as a teacher, counselor and educator. On August 30, 1958, she married Francis C. Burton Jr., a union which has grown to a family of 33.
Always a teacher, Helen spent many years teaching youth and young adults at Oxen Hill High School (MD), San Antonio College and as a Seminary and Institute teacher for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (LDS). She also served as a missionary alongside her husband in Asia from 2002 - 2004. At the time of her passing, she was an Assistant Matron of the San Antonio LDS temple.
Helen is survived by her husband of 56 years, Dr. Francis C. Burton, Jr. and three children; Boyd (Cheryl), of Denton, TX; Mark (Brenda), of Ogden, UT; and Teresa Hubbard (Scott), of League City, TX. She is also survived by thirteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren. A viewing will be held at Porter Loring Mortuary North from 6 - 8 PM on Thursday, July 24.
