Helen Orr Sowell died Friday, June 11, 2010 at the age of 93. A long-time resident of San Antonio, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of many years, C.L. "Doc" Sowell, Jr.; step-son, Jack "Buzzy" Sowell of Houston; sister, Mary Hartman of San Antonio and brother, Robert Orr.
Helen was a teacher at Longfellow Middle School in San Antonio until her retirement in 1970.
Survivors include her niece, Helen Hartman Kruppa of San Antonio and her family; her nephew, Michael Hartman of Fullerton, California and his family; step-son, Charles L. "Sonny" Sowell, III of Houston and his family; and the family of Jack Sowell in Houston.
In addition to family members, Ms. Sowell is survived by good friends, Rudy Guzman and Betty Estrada.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff of VITAS Innovative Hospice Care.
