CSM Henry D. Jablonski, Jr., age 87, passed from this world on October 18, 2014. Henry was a man of God, devoted to Family, and to his Country. He is survived by his wife, Patricia; his children: David (Sylvia), Theresa (Timothy), Catherine (Christian), and Susan (David); his sisters: Adele Walker, Dorothy Dueser Brown, and Joyce Parma; and his seven grandchildren. Henry has now joined his parents, Henry and Agnes, and sisters Lorene Dlugosch, Josephine Jablonski (deceased in infancy), Elaine Laake, and Margaret Williams.
Henry was a veteran of the Korean War and served the U.S. Army for 21 years, receiving several medals and commendations, achieving the rank of Command Sergeant Major. He was born and grew up in Yorktown, Texas. In his childhood, he worked on the family farm, explored Dewitt County, and joined the Army at 17 years old. Henry married Patricia A. Guzy on October 28, 1961 at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church, where they have been life-long parishioners. Stationed in the States and abroad, Henry and Patricia raised a young family, anxious to return home to South Texas.
After retiring from the Army and returning to San Antonio, Henry managed lumber yards and saved his earnings to ensure his children had a Catholic education. One of his favorite pastimes was watching basketball and other sports, whether it was practice or games of his children or grandchildren, or his beloved Spurs. Henry enjoyed family vacations to the Texas coast, where he loved to fish with his son and daughters. When his children were younger, he was a Boy Scout leader, camping trip organizer, and active at his Church.
Henry had his share of health challenges in his later years, enduring with unimaginable strength and perseverance. Never complaining about his heavy burdens, he taught us all about true faith and support of family. Henry's family would like to thank his primary physician, Dr. J. Pena, his many specialists, San Antonio Nurses, and the many aides and caregivers who assisted 'Mr. J' over the years.
Services in memory of Henry will be held this Wednesday, October 22nd with Visitation from 5 pm-7 pm at Porter Loring Mortuary at 1101 McCullough followed by a Rosary starting at 7 pm; and this Thursday, October 23rd with Funeral Mass at 11:45 am at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church at 1710 Clower with procession to and interment at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery at 1:15 pm.
