

In 1930, he moved to San Antonio and was in the first graduating class of Thomas Jefferson High School in 1932.
He and his brother, Norman, worked their way through college and law school at the University of Texas after which Herby worked as a lawyer in Laredo. On December 8, 1941, he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps and proudly served as an officer in North Africa and Italy.
After the war, he married his beautiful bride, Phyllis Gurwitz of Three Rivers, TX and spent 63 years with the love of his life.
Known professionally as Gordon Davis, he was a talented and dedicated attorney, respected for his integrity and intelligence ~ serving first in San Antonio city government and later as part of the Great Generation of San Antonians that helped build and mold our community.
Herby was strongly committed to his Jewish heritage and the State of Israel. More than anything, he was intensely devoted to his family. Papa Herby and Mama's four children and their spouses, their 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren brought immeasurable joy to their lives.
He will always be remembered by family and friends as sweet and warm, creative and spontaneous, protective and nurturing.
He was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Carol Horwitz, by his brother, Norman and sister, Shirley.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis; children: Steven and Jolene Davis; David Horwitz, Zandy and Peggy Davis; Barry and Shari Davis; grandchildren: Erin, Bryant, Jared, Suzanne, Elisa, Sydney, Noah and Carly Davis, Riva, Daron and Melissa Horwitz, Lori and Javid Noorollah; great-grandchildren: Evan and Gabriel Horwitz and Livia Noorollah; sister, Ada Jacobs and husband, Milford.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, November 4th at 2:00 P.M. at Beth El Memorial Park, 1715 Austin Hwy.
Pallbearers will be Leonard Shefts, Noah Davis, Jared Davis, Javid Noorollah, Russell Davis, Gary Jacobs, Fred Kline, Michael Beldon, Jason Chozick and Daron Horwitz. Honorary Pallbearers will be Gary Gurwitz, Robert Gurwitz, Jack Vexler, Dr. Michael Ozer, Dr. Larry Hoberman and Dr. Bradley Kayser.
