

Herb was born August 7, 1944 in Harlingen, Texas where his father was attending pilot training school. He attended high school in Sedalia, Missouri before the family moved to Athens, Greece where he graduated from the American Academy in Athens, Greece. Herb then went to The University of Maryland in Munich, Germany. In 1964, the family moved back to Austin, Texas where he attended the University of Texas and that is where he met his future wife.
On April 6, 1968, Herb married Jacquelyn Rowena Johnson at Tarrytown Methodist Church in Austin. He graduated from U. T. in 1970 with a degree in Aerospace Engineering and began his Air Force career in Pilot Training at Randolph AFB. He was also stationed at Mather AFB in Sacramento, returned to Randolph AFB in San Antonio, then was given the opportunity to get a master’s degree in computer science at Texas A&M. After graduation he was transferred to Scott AFB, Illinois.
In 1981 he left the USAF, returned to San Antonio, and went to work at USAA while also completing his MBA at UTSA. Herb retired from USAA in 2001. He and Jackie lived out their married life in San Antonio with their five children. Herb was a good son, son-in-law, husband, father, grandfather and a good neighbor.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert H. “Jack” Morgan and Ruby May Gray Morgan; son, William B. Morgan; infant daughter, Mary Louise Morgan; sister, Suzanne Morgan Wood and her husband, Ron Wood.
Herb is survived by his wife, Jackie, of 52 years; children, Meredith Morgan Reid and husband, Jeff Reid, Trey Morgan and wife, Jennifer Williamson Morgan, Wesley Morgan and wife, Rachel Quigney Morgan, Zandra Grajeda Morgan, widow of William B. Morgan, and Austin J. Morgan and wife, Penny Castaldo Morgan; grandchildren, Dalton and Mason Reid, Julia and Cole Morgan, Alexander and Brayden Morgan, Hayley, Alexis, and Fisher Quigney, Emmalee Karakula, Azalea Morgan, and Rylan, Jacquelyn “Jackie”, and Gia Morgan; sister and brother-in-law, Pam and Ray Geurink of Georgetown, Texas; nephews, Lance and Martin Wood, and Ty and Jay Geurink; aunt, Susan Morgan Roddy; and uncles, Byerly Morgan and Walter Everhart of Dayton, Tn.
He is also survived by his very good, long-time fishing buddies, Bob Marietta of Boerne, Texas, Randy Goode of San Antonio, Texas, and all the other Lone Star Fishing Club that he fished with for years. They shared many hours and made many memories together on local lakes.
Herb will be laid to rest, with full military honors, in Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery on Friday, September 25, 2020. The service will be held privately due to Covid-19 restrictions.
