Hortencia Morado Garcia, age 78, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt entered into rest on Saturday, February 21, 2009, in San Antonio, Texas; born to Arnulfo and Manuela Morado on October 24, 1930 in San Benito, Cameron County, Texas. She will now join her loving parents who went on to prepare for her arrival. She was blessed to see four generations of family.
Her memory will forever be cherished by her three sons and daughter: Hector Sandy Garcia, Omar Garcia, Brenda John Nida, and Alex Dina Garcia; eight grandchildren: Rebecca Ron Key, Lisa Robert Garza, Sheila Garcia, Lindsey Bob Schumacher Morrow, Lauren Schumacher, Alexis Garcia, Ryan Garcia, Haleigh Garcia and three great-grandchildren: Robert, Cassandra, and Jillian Garza. She is also survived by her mother Cruz Lopez and numerous brothers and sisters, other relatives and friends.
In her early years, she was an employee at Vee's Hair Salon, Joske's, Dillards, and as a nanny.
She was an accomplished hairdresser and enjoyed gardening, cooking and reading. Everyone enjoyed her Mexican dishes as she put lots of "carino" into her cooking! She was adored and loved by all who knew her.
She was the caregiver for her grandchildren on a daily basis during their early years and enjoyed being Grandma, even moving to Sacramento California to care for Lindsey and Lauren. She left us with many family traditions especially the importance of our Catholic faith.
The family greatly appreciates the care and love shown to our mother through this very difficult time by the staff at the Odyssey Hospice House and all their Angels sent who so compassionately cared for our mom and her family. We will always be in their debt. The Pallbearers are Rene Lopez, Lonnie Lopez, Sergio Lopez, Noel Garcia, Trinidad Calderon III, and Ricardo Morado.
The family will receive family and friends on Sunday, February 22, 2009, at Porter Loring Mortuary North, 2102 North Loop 1604 East at Gold Canyon Drive from 7pm - 9pm with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, February 23, 2009, at 10:00am at Saint Francis of Assisi, 4201 De Zavala Rd, San Antonio, TX 78249. Interment follows at Holy Cross Cemetery, 17501 Nacogdoches, San Antonio, TX 78266.
Mom, you were the heart of our family and a great mother. You are our rock and strength! We will always remember you. Your legacy will live in us always.
